The man who is creating the Buddha statue.
Background of Mr. Suporn Wanichakul – the President of the committee creating Phra Putthamingmonkolekanagagiri
By Art Technician.
Starting from life lesson that we have no certainty since we open eyes to see this world. Parent’s lives after their child’s born could be growing up or growing down up to the situation. Certain child may gradually go along with that condition following his parent’s life. That’s why the impermanency could be happened with all beings in this world. As his breath and his life, Mr. Suporn Wanichakul could not cross away this kind of impermanency. From his normal life in this society where we earn a living struggling to be an unexpected devotee, Mr. Suporn is creating a huge Buddha stature of Phuket for presenting to the King. And he has never dreamed before
After his marriage, Mr Suporn has got a daughter and a good social status. He was a good, honest man with only one goal in life and that was to do the very best he could, to support his family. He was also an optimistic and positive person who thought that all people were good and honest. Unfortunately, he encountered a person who was not good and cheated him which caused him to lose around ten million Baht. Mr Suporn could not understand this type of behaviour and got confused about good human belief unlimitedly. This made him so angry that it severely raised his blood pressure and made him very ill. “It is better to be dead”, he thought.
But, when he looked at his family, his anger subsided and the temple became his place of healing. He meditated to penetrate the essence of Dharma and this helped to cure him. He did remind that all lost assets were from the desire. The greedy will be happened unlimitedly. After thinking about this, Mr. Suporn ’s mind could be completely peaceful. His thoughts and meditation gave him inner peace.
A short while later the construction of a huge Buddha statue was considered. This Buddha statue was to be created in many sections in Phuket and being supported by Buddhist throughout Thailand. While this project was proceeding, the first president unexpectedly resigned. The chairman of the meeting asked for a volunteer and it was unanimously decided that Mr. Suporn should take this position. Mr. Suporn is a devout Buddhist and, under his direction, devotion to Buddha can be carried out during the building of the Buddha statue.
He began his term of office by creating the brass Buddha statue which
is 12 meters wide. The huge Buddha statue– Phra Putthamingmongkolekanagagiri is
45 meters high. Without any building experience before (previously Mr. Suporn
had a normal business) the task was how to keep the project running smoothly
and, ultimately, successfully. The normal course of action for a person who had
business experience would be to take a bank loan not waiting for donations which
could take a long time. Mr Suporn has put his faith in Buddha. Collection Boxes
have been placed in offices and business. These boxes have the symbolic emblem
celebrating the King’s 80th birthday year’s anniversary as the statue being
created is to be presented to His Majesty the King for royal charity. Because
the King is loved and honored by the Thai People and Buddhist can make merit by
donating to the creation of the Buddha image, donations are steadily flowing
into the building fund. In addition, the symbolic emblem is also decorated at a
fine cloth at the frontal side of the Buddha statue. The name “Phra
Putthamingmongkolekanagagiri” was granted and appointed as the Buddha statue-a
treasure of Muang Phuket by Somdech Phra Yannasangvara, the Supreme Patriarch.
People in the world can see. This merit is worth of saying- “Miracle of faith,
to reach the sky, the Andaman Sea is touched.”/Name. Mr. Suporn Wanichakul
